Yankees ace Masahiro Tanaka says he knows when he’ll start to consider opting out of contract

Masahiro Tanaka can quit at season’s end.

Be that as it may, heading into spring preparing, the Yankees pro has different things at the forefront of his thoughts.

“It’s something that I set aside going into the season,” Tanaka said Wednesday in Tampa, as per the Associated Press. “Can’t be truly considering that while you experience the season, truly concentrate on this season and when the time comes after the season, then I’ll most likely have an opportunity to consider that more.”

Tanaka is entering Year 4 of the seven-year, $155 million contract he marked in 2014. He tossed a warm up area Wednesday, the AP detailed.

The 28-year-old right-hander has posted a 39-16 record with a 3.12 ERA in his initial three seasons in the Bronx.

“We have a critical contract with Masahiro Tanaka,” Yankees GM Brian Cashman answered in January when inquired as to whether he’d had any discussions with Tanaka’s agents around an augmentation. “Ideally he has an awesome year, and after that he’ll have a choice to make. In the event that he doesn’t, then he won’t. I think he pitched like a Cy Young honor competitor a year ago, and I surely trust he does as such again this year. Be that as it may, now we’ve had no discourses inside to seek after any sort of expansion.”
